 Functional Capacity Evaluation

Our physiotherapists are experts in movement, strength, and rehabilitation. A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) completed by a physiotherapist provides a clear and objective measure of an individual’s physical abilities in relation to both daily activities and job demands.

This assessment helps determine:

  • Readiness to return to work after injury or illness

  • Safe physical limits for performing tasks

  • Whether further rehabilitation or workplace adjustments may be required

Areas commonly assessed include:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling

  • Overhead and forward reaching

  • Grip strength and handling tasks

  • Walking, stepping, crawling

  • Sitting, standing, and bending tolerances

By combining structured physical testing with clinical expertise, our physiotherapists deliver accurate and practical insights to guide safe and sustainable return-to-work planning.

Job Task Analysis / Worksite Assessment

Our physiotherapists conduct Job Task Analyses and Worksite Assessments to provide a clear understanding of the physical demands of a role and how they relate to an individual’s current functional capacity.

Using observation, discussion, and documented job information (with employer permission), the assessment reviews the physical requirements of the role, including:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling

  • Postural demands such as bending, kneeling, and reaching

  • Repetitive movements and manual handling

  • Work environment factors that may affect safe performance

Where appropriate, photographs or videos (with consent) are used to accurately capture workplace demands.

The findings allow us to:

  • Compare role requirements against the worker’s assessed capacity

  • Identify risks and necessary modifications

  • Provide recommendations to support a safe and sustainable return to work

Onsite Physiotherapy & Injury Prevention Programs

We provide onsite physiotherapy services designed to keep your workforce healthy, safe, and productive. By having a physiotherapist regularly attend your workplace, we can identify risks early, address minor issues before they become major injuries, and implement tailored injury prevention strategies.

Our onsite programs typically include:

  • Job Task & Worksite Assessments – reviewing the physical demands of roles to identify risk factors and recommend practical solutions

  • Ergonomic Reviews – assessing workstations, equipment, and work practices to reduce strain and improve efficiency

  • Manual Handling Training – educating staff on safe lifting and movement techniques specific to your workplace

  • Early Intervention Consultations – providing quick access to treatment for niggles, strains, and minor injuries before they escalate

  • Health & Wellbeing Initiatives – tailored programs to promote mobility, strength, and overall worker resilience

By embedding a physiotherapist into your workplace, your organisation benefits from:

  • Reduced injury rates and workers’ compensation claims

  • Faster recovery and return to work for injured staff

  • Improved staff safety awareness and productivity

  • Long-term cost savings through proactive injury prevention

PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS

 Functional Capacity Evaluation

For individuals who may be unable or unlikely to return to their previous role, a psychologist-led vocational assessment provides a clear pathway toward alternative employment options.

The process is designed to identify realistic and meaningful career directions, and typically includes:

  • A detailed review of work history, education, training, and transferrable skills

  • Formal psychological testing (where appropriate) to measure cognitive ability, resilience, and work-readiness

  • Exploration of personal interests, values, and career preferences

  • Recommendations for training or retraining opportunities to expand future options

  • Consultation with treating professionals to ensure identified roles are safe and suitable

  • Comprehensive labour market research to confirm the availability and feasibility of proposed employment options

These assessments are delivered by registered psychologists with expertise in vocational rehabilitation. Depending on your needs, they can be completed in person or via videoc onference.

Vocational Assessment

A vocational assessment conducted by a psychologist is ideal for individuals who may be unable, or unlikely, to return to their previous role. The focus is on identifying realistic and sustainable employment options that align with both psychological wellbeing and vocational strengths.

This process typically involves:

  • A detailed review of work history, education, training, and transferrable skills

  • Standardised psychological testing (where appropriate) to assess cognitive ability, emotional functioning, and resilience for work

  • Exploration of personal interests, values, and career preferences to guide future directions

  • Recommendations for training, retraining, or skill development tailored to the individual’s capacity and goals

  • Liaison with treating professionals to ensure identified roles are safe, suitable, and consistent with recovery needs

  • Labour market research to confirm that suggested roles are both viable and achievable in the current employment environment

These assessments are delivered by registered psychologists with expertise in vocational rehabilitation and return-to-work planning. They can be completed either in person or via video consultation.

Labour Market Analysis

A psychologist-led Labour Market Analysis helps individuals set realistic and achievable employment goals by combining an understanding of their psychological profile with current job market data. The aim is to identify opportunities that are both mentally sustainable and vocationally suitable.

This assessment may include:

  • Analysing how cognitive, emotional, and behavioural factors influence the types of roles an individual can reasonably pursue

  • Exploring personal career preferences, strengths, and values in relation to market opportunities

  • Reviewing current job advertisements and connecting these with the individual’s skills, qualifications, and capacity

  • Identifying salary and wage expectations across potential industries

  • Tracking employment trends to highlight sectors with growing opportunities

  • Highlighting training or qualification requirements to bridge gaps between the person’s current abilities and role expectations

Conducted by a registered psychologist with expertise in vocational rehabilitation, this process ensures employment goals are not only practical within the labour market but also aligned with the individual’s psychological readiness and long-term recovery.

Total Permanent Disability (TPD) & Medico-Legal Narrative Reports

Our GPs provide structured medico-legal opinions that go beyond routine treatment notes, tailored to the legal questions posed.

This includes:

  • TPD Reports for superannuation and insurance claims, detailing whether the claimant is unlikely to ever return to work in their usual or any suitable occupation.

  • Narrative Medico-Legal Reports — comprehensive, court-ready documents that address causation, diagnosis, capacity, prognosis, and impact in a clear, structured format.

  • Responses to specific lawyer or insurer questions to ensure the report directly addresses the legal issues at stake.

Treatment, Prognosis & Functional Impact Of Injury

Our GPs assess both the clinical progress and the real-world impact of an injury or illness.

Reports may include:

  • Summary of all treatment to date (medical, surgical, allied health).

  • Evidence-based opinion on prognosis — likelihood of full recovery, partial recovery, or permanent impairment.

  • Recommendations for future treatment or rehabilitation.

  • Insight into the daily impact of injury (pain, fatigue, functional restrictions).

Injury Evaluation & Causation Reports

Our GPs perform thorough medical assessments that document the full clinical picture of the claimant’s condition.

This includes:

  • Detailed injury history and chronology of events.

  • Review of medical records, imaging, and specialist reports.

  • Clear diagnosis supported by objective clinical findings.

  • Expert commentary on causation — linking the injury or illness to the reported workplace accident, motor vehicle collision, or other incident.

Work Capacity & Fitness for Employment

Our GPs provide legally sound evidence on an individual’s functional abilities and limitations, including:

  • Completion of Certificates of Capacity in line with jurisdictional requirements (e.g., SIRA in NSW).

  • Commentary on whether the individual can perform pre-injury duties, modified duties, or alternative work.

  • Clear, practical restrictions to guide employers, insurers, and courts.

  • Consideration of co-morbidities and psychosocial barriers that may impact return to work
